2016-2017 Reflections Contest is.. "What is Your Story?"

The Reflections Program provides students with the opportunity to create works of art for fun and recognition. Reflections can also serve as an outlet for students to creatively explore what they are learning in the classroom. It helps parents encourage the creativity, self-discovery, and lifelong learning of their children. Supporting the PTSA Reflection Program is one way you can increase student achievement, foster student talents, and promote the arts.

Students are encouraged to submit original works of art in one or more of the following categories:

- Dance Choreography                      - Photography

- Literature                                         - Film Production

- Musical Composition                       - Visual Arts

Entries are judged on artistic skill and interpretation of the theme. Rules regarding the 2016-2017 Reflections contest can be found at: For more details, please email [email protected].

Get a head start on your Reflections submissions as these are due to your PTSA by November 3, 2016.

Citizenship Essay Project

2016-2017 Theme: "We the People...Why Vote?"

Virginia PTA is proud to sponsor the 2017 Citizenship Essay Project, with the theme “We the people…why vote?” This essay project allows students to express their views and opinions on character or citizenship.  Virginia PTA is committed to promoting a sense of citizenship and responsibility in the lives of our children—tomorrow’s leaders.

Who Can Enter?

All Virginia students in grades K – 12 presently enrolled in schools with active PTA/PTSA units in Good Standing.   The Special Writer Division is non-graded and limited to students whose physical, cognitive, or mental health challenges meet ADA guidelines. Qualifying students entering this division create their own essay but may receive non-artistic accommodation and assistance from an adult.

* Students in grades 6 – 8 must write a minimum of 500  words, typed and double-spaced with Times New Roman 12 Font and 1”

* Special Writers may submit entries typed or handwritten.

* In all categories, adherence to the theme, originality, clarity, thought, and skill in standard written English will be judged.

* The theme must be used as the essay title and cannot be changed or altered in any way.

Winners in each age group are notified in April and will be featured in Virginia PTA’s official publications:

  • 1st Place – $250
